1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms

NoobAcademy is a website where you learn to make games by reading short lessons and writing code in your browser. It is run by Xero Media LLC ("we", "us" and "our").

These terms are the agreement between you and Xero Media LLC for using NoobAcademy. When you create an account, or use the site in any way, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use NoobAcademy.

2. Who can use NoobAcademy

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 13, you may not create an account yourself. The one exception is an account that an educator at your school makes for you as part of a class, under section 17.

If you are 13 or older but under 18, you need a parent or guardian to read these terms and agree to them for you. By letting you use NoobAcademy, they accept these terms on your behalf and are responsible for your use of the site.

You must also be allowed to use the site under the laws where you live.

3. Your account

You need an account to save progress, earn XP and keep a streak. Give us a real email address and keep it up to date.

Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password and tell us right away.

Do not share your account or sell it. Each account is for one person.

4. Early access

NoobAcademy is in early access. It is free to use right now. That may change.

Features, lessons, XP, levels, streaks, certificates and other parts of the site can change, move or be removed while we build. Progress is saved on our servers, but because the site is still growing, we cannot promise that every lesson, score or setting will stay exactly as it is today.

5. Paid plans in the future

We plan to offer paid plans later. This section applies once they exist.

  • Prices. We show the price, the billing period and what you get before you pay. Prices may not include taxes. Where the law requires us to add sales tax, VAT or a similar tax, we show it before you pay.
  • Subscriptions renew. A monthly or yearly plan renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. We charge the payment method you gave us at the price shown when you signed up, unless we told you about a new price before the renewal.
  • Cancel any time. Canceling stops the next renewal. You keep your paid access until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • 30-day refund. If you buy a plan for the first time and change your mind, ask us within 30 days of paying and we will refund that first payment in full.
  • Early access plans. If you joined a waitlist or bought an early plan with a special price, we will explain what it includes before you pay.
  • Age to buy. You must be 18 or older to buy a paid plan. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must make the purchase for you and agree to these terms on your behalf.

Payments are handled by a payment company (see section 9). We do not store your full card number.

6. Acceptable use

Please use NoobAcademy the way it is meant to be used. You agree that you will not:

  • attack, overload or try to break the code runner or any other part of the site;
  • try to escape the sandbox that your code runs in, read files or data that are not yours, or reach other machines through it;
  • scrape, copy or download the site or its lessons in bulk with bots or scripts;
  • use bots, macros or other automation to earn XP, streaks, certificates or leaderboard places;
  • cheat in a way that gives you a ranking or reward you did not earn, or help someone else do it;
  • harass, threaten or abuse other people, or use a name or profile that is hateful or pretends to be someone else;
  • post or run code or content that is illegal, or that harms other people or their devices (for example malware);
  • break the law, or help anyone else break it, while using the site;
  • try to get around any limit, lock, plan or security feature.

If you find a security problem, please tell us instead of using it. We may remove content, reset progress that was earned unfairly, or suspend accounts that break this section.

7. Your code and content

You own the code and other content you write on NoobAcademy.

To run the service, we need your permission to handle that content. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, run, display and back up your code and content, but only as needed to provide and improve NoobAcademy for you. For example, we save your drafts, run your code to grade it, and show it back to you.

We do not claim ownership of what you make. We may show anonymous numbers made from how people use the site, such as how many people finished a lesson. These numbers will not name you.

Only submit code and content that you have the right to use.

8. Our content

The lessons, text, art, audio, narration, code examples, tests, mascot and the NoobAcademy name and logo are owned by Xero Media LLC or by the people who license them to us. They are protected by copyright and other laws.

You may use them for your own personal learning. You may not copy, sell, republish, share, record or turn the course into something else without our written permission. This includes copying lessons into your own course, a book, a video series or an AI training set. You may use what you learn, and the code you write yourself, however you like.

A Certificate of Completion shows that you finished a course on NoobAcademy. It is not a school qualification, and no outside body has reviewed or approved it. We may cancel a certificate that was earned by breaking section 6.

9. Third-party services

NoobAcademy relies on other companies for things like hosting, payments, email and analytics. Their services have their own terms and policies, and we are not responsible for them. Links to other sites are there for your convenience. We do not control those sites.

How we handle your personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy. By creating an account you agree to the Privacy Policy as well as these terms.

10. Availability and changes

We try to keep NoobAcademy running, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may stop the site for maintenance, or change or remove any part of it at any time. We will try to give notice for big changes when we can.

11. Disclaimers

NoobAcademy is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we do not make any promises, express or implied, about the site. This includes promises that it will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that lessons are free of mistakes, or that it will fit a particular purpose.

Learning results depend on you. We cannot promise that you will get a job, finish a game or reach any goal by using the site.

Some places do not allow certain disclaimers. In those places, only the disclaimers that are allowed apply.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Xero Media LLC and the people who work for it will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for lost profits, lost data or lost opportunities, even if we were told they could happen.

Our total responsibility to you for everything connected to NoobAcademy and these terms is limited to the greater of: the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that cannot be limited by law.

13. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of something you did, such as breaking these terms or running code you had no right to use, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, including reasonable legal fees. We will tell you about the claim and let you help sort it out. This section does not apply where the law does not allow it.

14. Ending your account

You can stop using NoobAcademy at any time, and you can delete your account yourself in Settings. When you delete it, we remove your account, your saved progress and your certificates, except for anything we must keep by law or for a short time in backups.

We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, put the site or other people at risk, or if the law requires it. Where we can, we will tell you why.

Sections that by their nature should continue after your account ends (such as sections 7, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 16) will continue.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the date and version at the top. For big changes we will also put a notice on the site.

If you keep using NoobAcademy after a change, you accept the new terms. If you do not agree with them, stop using the site and delete your account.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the U.S. state where Xero Media LLC is organized, without regard to its conflict of law rules. That choice does not take away any rights you have under your local law that cannot be waived, such as consumer protection rights where you live.

17. Educators and schools

An educator is a person who runs a class on NoobAcademy, such as a school staff member, a tutor or a club leader. This section applies to educators and to the students in their classes.

  • Accounts for students. An educator may create accounts for their students, by name (we make a username and a temporary password) or by email address. The student picks their own password the first time they log in. An educator may also give students a join code so they can add themselves to the class.
  • Students under 13. An educator who creates accounts for students under 13 confirms that they have authorization from the school, or from each student's parent or legal guardian, to do so. The educator also agrees to these terms for those students and to the Privacy Policy on their behalf. If you are an educator and you do not have that authorization, do not create the accounts.
  • What educators can see. An educator can see the names, usernames and emails of the students in their classes, their progress in the lessons (levels, XP, lessons passed, tries, where they are stuck, when they were last on the site), and the help questions and code the students send. Educators may use this only to teach and support their students, and must keep it private. Our staff can see it too, to run the site.
  • Logins. An educator must keep the usernames and temporary passwords they print or download in a safe place and hand them out only to the right student. They can reset the password of an account they made, take a student out of the class, or delete an account they made.
  • Students in a class. A student who joined a class with a code can leave it any time in Settings. A student whose account was made by their educator can ask the educator, or write to us, to be taken out of the class or to have the account deleted.
  • Our right to act. We may switch off an educator account, or remove a class, that breaks these terms or that is used to put students at risk.
