What is a programming language?

Demo lesson, about 3 min, +25 XP

A computer does exactly what you tell it to do, and nothing more. If you leave something out, it does not fill in the gap. A game works the same way. Every jump, sound and score is something a person told the computer to do.

You tell a computer what to do by writing instructions. A computer can't read plain English, so the instructions are written in a programming language. A programming language has its own words and exact rules for putting them together.
